For People Who've Been Turned Away

Denied Life Insurance?
You're Not Uninsurable.

A denial from one carrier isn't a verdict — it's one company's rulebook. Different carriers have dramatically different underwriting standards for the same health conditions. We shop 50+ and find the one that says yes.

Why It Happens

A Denial Isn't About You.
It's About One Carrier's Rulebook.

Most people apply for life insurance through a captive agent — someone who works for one company and can legally only offer that company's products. When that carrier says no, the agent has nowhere else to go. That doesn't mean no one will cover you. It means that one company won't.

Captive / Direct Agent

  • Works for one carrier only
  • Legally can't show competing options
  • One denial = conversation over
  • No knowledge of how other carriers view your condition
  • You walk away thinking you're uninsurable

The Wood Agency (Independent)

  • Shops 50+ A-rated carriers simultaneously
  • Zero loyalty to any single company — only to you
  • Different carriers treat the same condition differently — we know which ones work for your profile
  • Specializes in hard-to-place clients and complex health histories
  • Free quote — we don't get paid unless we find you something worth having
Personal Experience

Our Founder Has Sat
Where You're Sitting.

In 2024, Ben underwent three serious brain surgeries. Before each one, the question wasn't whether he'd be okay — it was whether his family would be okay if he wasn't. That clarity, that weight, is something he carries into every client conversation.

Ben knows what it feels like to have a complicated health history. He knows what it's like to wonder whether you're still insurable. And he knows that the answer almost always depends on who you ask — not just whether you ask.

When you come to Wood Agency with a prior denial or a complex health situation, you're not a difficult case to manage. You're exactly the person we built this agency to help.

Common Questions

Questions About
Being Denied

Does being denied once mean I'll always be denied?
No. A denial from one carrier only means that one carrier's underwriting guidelines don't accommodate your health profile. Other carriers may have very different standards — especially independent specialty carriers that focus on higher-risk applicants. Our job is to find the one that works for you.
Will a prior denial show up when I apply elsewhere?
Prior applications and denials are reported to MIB (Medical Information Bureau), which most carriers check. This doesn't automatically disqualify you — it simply means the new carrier is aware. Our agents know how to work with this disclosure and match you to carriers that are more likely to view your profile favorably.
How long does it take to find out if I can get covered?
For many health conditions, we can give you a general idea within one conversation. Formal quotes typically come back within 1–3 business days. Some no-exam policies can be approved the same day. It depends on the product and your specific health profile — we'll be upfront about the timeline.
Does it cost more if I have a health condition?
Potentially, yes — but often less than you'd expect, especially with the right carrier. Some carriers specialize in impaired risk and price those policies competitively because they do a lot of volume with that demographic. Going through us rather than directly to a carrier is always free — carriers pay us, not you.
What if I've been denied multiple times?
Multiple denials are actually helpful context — it tells us which carriers have already passed, which narrows the field and helps us target the right ones faster. We've found coverage for clients denied three or four times. The number of denials doesn't determine the outcome — the right carrier does.
What types of policies are available for hard-to-place clients?
Depending on your health profile, options may include: standard term or whole life with rated (higher) premiums, guaranteed issue policies that don't require medical underwriting, simplified issue policies with limited health questions, graded benefit policies, and final expense policies. We'll present all realistic options and explain the trade-offs honestly.
